Vegan and Cruelty Free Holiday Makeup Tutorial

Christmas and the holiday season is meant to be the most wonderful time of the year but sadly it isn't for everyone. While I wish it was all glitz and glam the sad reality is that many makeup and beauty products are still being tested on animals.

I strongly believe no animal should have to suffer for our vanity so I have collaborated with Vegan Australia to create this ethical glam holiday makeup look using my favourited Australian beauty brands as part of their annual 12 Days of Christmas.

This look would be perfect for your family Christmas gathering or your work Christmas party and below I have shared the Australian makeup products used and step by step directions so you can recreate the look yourself.

Wanderlightly Kakadu Plum + Chamomile Face Mist
Step 1: Wake up your skin and your senses using a hydrating facial mist. I love doing this not only before I apply makeup but any time my skin needs a pick me up.

Step 2: Give your skin an extra boost of hydration by applying a Hyaluronic Acid Serum. Press it onto your face, neck and décolletage while your skin is still damp from the facial mist. Hyaluronic Acid holds over 1000 times its weight in water so it is the ultimate hydration booster for the skin!

Beautifltr Feather Light SPF50+ Beautifltr Feather Light SPF50+
Step 3: To prep, prime and protect the skin apply a moisturising spf. I love the Beautifltr Feather Light SPF50+ because it is lightweight, fast absorbing and non-greasy so it nourishes the skin while also protecting it from harsh UVA and UVB rays.

Kylie’s Professional Mineral Goddess Luxury Cream Foundation in Delicate Kylie’s Professional Mineral Goddess Luxury Cream Foundation in Delicate
Step 4: It's time to apply foundation. When using a cream foundation I like to start by applying a small amount in the centre of my face and blending out with my fingers. The heat from your fingers will effortlessly melt the foundation into the skin.

Step 5: Once you have applied the foundation and you're happy with coverage and placement, take a damp beauty sponge and lightly tap over the top to blend out. You want to make sure your beauty sponge isn't dripping wet so hold it inside a hand towel and squeeze to remove any excess water.
Preferred Product: Ere Perez Bio All Beauty Sponges (they were currently being cleaned so I am using an alternative beauty sponge)

Step 6: Conceal and colour correct under and around the eyes to minimise any dark circles or discolouration on the eyelids. When using the Ere Perez Lychee Creme Corrector start small with a dot on your ring finger and then tap onto your opposite ring finger before tapping under and around the eyes. The heat from your fingers will melt the product into the skin.

Kylie’s Professional Mineral Loose Eyeshadows Kylie’s Professional Mineral Loose Eyeshadows
Step 7: For eyeshadow, I used three of the Kylie's Professional Loose Mineral Eyeshadows in the shades 'Shelly', 'Earth' and 'Rose'. These are highly pigmented and finely milled eyeshadows without any toxic chemicals that blend like a dream.
Start by using a flat brush and applying 'Shelly' all over the eyelid and through the crease. This will act as a neutral base for the other shadows to blend on.

Then take the shade 'Earth' and apply it to the outer corner of my eye in a 'C' shape and then softly blend it through the crease.

Step 8: I then like to define the lash line using a creamy eye pencil. Start by tightlining the upper waterline - this looks scarier than it is and if you look in the opposite direction when you're applying the pencil then you won't poke yourself in the eye.

Step 9: Using the same eye pencil, line the lower outer corner and also run it over the top lash line. Don't worry if it isn't perfect as you will blend it out in the next step.

Step 10: Using a small shader brush blend it over the top of the eyeliner to smoke out. You are then ready to pack 'Rose Gold' onto the first half of each eyelid using a flat brush. Once done take a small fluffy brush and fuse where 'Earth' meets 'Rose Gold' for a seamless finish.

Step 11: Coat your upper and lower lashes with a coat of mascara.

Ere Perez Rice Powder Bronzer in Tulum Ere Perez Rice Powder Bronzer in Tulum
Step 12: Warm up your complexion using a bronzing powder. Swirl your powder brush though the bronzer and tap off any excess before applying. This will ensure you don't apply too much. Apply the blush around the perimeter of your face where the sun would naturally hit. I also like to take it softly over the bridge of my nose so it meets the bronzer on my cheeks.

Ere Perez Aloe Gel Brow Mascara Ere Perez Aloe Gel Brow Mascara
Step 13: Groom and set your natural brow hairs in place using a clear or tinted brow gel. By applying the brow gel before a brow pencil you can see any sparse areas that need to be filled in with the pencil and so you don't overfill your brows.

Eye of Horus Brow Define Pencil in Medium Eye of Horus Brow Define Pencil in Medium
Step 14: Once the brow gel has set, use a precise brow pencil and fill in any sparse areas. Once done use the spoolie brush on the opposite end of the pencil and blend out. This will blend any harsh lines the pencil may have created and soften your brow look.

Kylie’s Professional Mineral Setting Powder in Xtra Matt Kylie’s Professional Mineral Setting Powder in Xtra Matt
Step 15: If your skin is prone to getting oily or if you need your makeup to last all day or night, I highly recommend using a setting powder. This is the Xtra Matt Setting powder which is finely milled and knocks back any shine, particularly through my t-zone. Tap a powder brush into the setting powder to pick up some powder, tap off any excess and press into the areas you want to set. I don't like to press too much under the eyes as it may settle into fine lines. Instead I use a small fluffy brush and lightly sweep it under the eyes.

Step 16: Line the lips using the Ere Perez Lip Pencil in Kiss.

Ere Perez Carrot Colour Pot in Hello Ere Perez Carrot Colour Pot in Hello
Step 17: Taking a lip brush, apply the Ere Perez Carrot Colour Pot in a colour of your choice to the lips. I chose the shade 'Hello' because it is a vibrant, crimson red perfect for the holidays, but they have a beautiful range of colours to choose from.

Recreation Beauty At Night We Dance Eau de Parfum
Step 18: Finish off your look with a spritz of your favourite perfume. I chose "At Night We Dance" from Recreation Beauty who have an amazing range of clean fragrances that don't contain harsh chemicals or endocrine disrupting ingredients.
