"I had the opportunity to attend Marisa’s Self Love Sunday event and it was beautiful! I had not had a Gua Sha experience previously, but felt so nurtured by Marisa and really enjoyed learning some techniques for self care and relaxation. I am glad to have taken the time to attend the workshop, my cup was filled that day!"
-
"I absolutely loved yesterday. It certainly ticked all the boxes of a 'Self Love Sunday' which I desperately deserved! I've been looking forward to this day as I had a fairly intense few days away with my "just getting over the flu" grandkids so I was pretty keen to unwind and Marisa, in her calm and beautiful way, made that happen. A huge thank you Marisa for the Gua Sha class, Reiki healing and sound bath meditation experiences!"
-
"I recently attended a Self Love Sunday event and from the minute I walked in to the minute I left, I deeply enjoyed myself. The room was beautifully decorated, the Gua Sha training, the Reiki grounding and the sound bath all exceeded my expectations. Marisa was skilled at answering our questions while also keeping the event moving. The longer I was in the room, the more grounded and calm I felt. I highly recommend this event. I know I'll be coming back!"
-
"I'm still feeling zen from Gua Sha. This tired mumma is getting back into self care - highly recommend a session next time Marisa runs one!"
-
"After attending the session it is pushing me to Gua Sha more regularly in the evening. I'm loving the difference it is making to my skin."
-
"Thank you with all my heart for this wonderful workshop, Marisa! It was such a relaxing and beautiful afternoon. We all need this from you!"
Self Love Sunday FAQs
What can I expect from a Self Love Sunday event?
Self Love Sunday is a gentle, grounding space to reconnect with yourself through mindful rituals and community. Each event includes a guided Gua Sha facial massage, calming breathwork or meditation, and nurturing conversation around holistic self-care. Whether you’re new to these practices or returning to them, you’ll leave feeling relaxed, restored, and more deeply connected to your body.
What is Gua Sha?
Gua Sha is an ancient healing technique that involves scraping the skin with a smooth-edged tool, typically made of jade or natural crystal.
The term "gua sha" comes from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and is derived from two Chinese words:
Gua (刮): meaning "to scrape" or "scraping."
Sha (痧): referring to the reddish, raised marks or petechiae that appear on the skin during the process. These marks are believed to indicate the release of stagnation, toxins, or blockages in the body's energy (qi) or blood flow.
Together, Gua Sha translates roughly to "scraping away stagnation" and when incorporated into your skincare and self care routines it helps to boost microcirculation and blood flow for plump, glowing skin, lifts and sculpts the face, releases muscle tension, reduces inflammation, softens fine lines and wrinkles and promotes lymphatic drainage which helps to remove toxins from the body.
What are the benefits of Gua Sha?
Gua Sha is an ancient healing technique that supports both the skin and the nervous system. It promotes lymphatic drainage, reduces puffiness, improves circulation, and can help naturally lift and sculpt the face. More than just skin-deep, it’s also a soothing self-care ritual that calms the mind and reconnects you to your body.
I haven’t done Gua Sha before, is this workshop for me?
Absolutely. This workshop is designed to support both complete beginners and those looking to deepen their practice. I’ll guide you through each step with gentle instruction, demonstrating the techniques and offering personalised support throughout. You’ll leave feeling confident, grounded and glowing.
Is Gua Sha suitable for sensitive skin or specific conditions?
Gua Sha is generally very gentle and can be adapted to suit most skin types, including sensitive skin. If you have any specific skin conditions (such as active acne, rosacea or recent cosmetic procedures), I recommend speaking with your healthcare provider or sending me an email beforehand so I can offer personalised guidance.
